Praise

from Teachers, Librarians and Parents

"Reading FOOTBALL GENIUS out loud to my middle school classes for the fourth year now. What impresses me now is how much this story reflects the realities of kids' lives. No wizards or vampires, no historical settings they only half-understand, but poor kids with parent issues living near the train tracks—that's my school's population."
   —Teacher Dave Taggart

"I am a school social worker and mother of a dyslexic 7th grader who also happens to love football. He and his friends have recently been turned on to your books and are spell bound. For my son in particular, reading is extremely difficult. He gets tutored 3x a week. Your books have unlocked the love of reading for him. It's very exciting. Thanks for making reading fun for a struggling reader."
   —Judy Callans

"I just wanted to thank you for some GREAT writing! I have a 11 year old son that is quite smart but resists reading almost anything lately. I recently got one of your new books that we didn't realize was out yet and he read it in just a few days. He always says to just get him any Tim Green books. Now if only you could write one once a week!!!! Thanks again for the enjoyment you give the kids, and their parents watching them read!"
   —Kathleen Beckwith

"When I asked my grandson the one thing he did NOT like about FOOTBALL GENIUS he said "the end." Why? "I was sad it was over and I could not read more." This is a young man who does not like to read."
   —Connie Albert

"My 7th Grade Boys are really enjoying your book, Football Genius. On Friday, we read chapters 1 and 2 of the book in class. The boys were really disappointed when the bell rang and we had to stop. The funny thing is—these boys had their lunch period after my class was over. It was the first time ever that I had a group of students who didn't think they were ready to go to lunch. I finally figured out how to connect to the typical 7th grade boy."
—Angela Skipping, 7th Grade Reading Teacher, May High School

"In September of 2007 you came to visit Ray Middle School in Baldwinsville, and you were a huge success. Since then, your book Football Genius is still being read by so many students. Every month, it is the only book that I have that at least 15 or more students take out to read. In March and April, I had a March Madness Book Program where another teacher and I gave 64 book talks. Football Genius was one of them. Then the students had to vote on each of the books the way the NCAA basketball teams pair off to win the tournament. After all the voting was done, we voted 5 times, Football Genius was the number 1 book at Ray. I have never had a book that was read and liked so much before. Thank you. Now the students are asking me for your new book and can't wait to read it. I will be getting it in next week. I just wanted you to know what an impact you and your books are having on my students, and thank you for all you have done."
   —Darlene St. John, Teacher/Librarian

"As a 7th grade teacher and a mother, I have to tell you how much I appreciate your book Football Genius. My 12 year old is a good student and very bright, but doesn't really enjoy reading very much. He does, however, love football, so when I was looking for a book to give him for Christmas, I was delighted when I found Football Genius. I have to tell you he read it in about 3 days—which really impressed me. He absolutely loved it! I was so happy today when I went to your website and saw that you have another book coming out in April—I will definitely buy it for my son. He is an aspiring football player (quite good, actually—O and D line!) and your true-life experiences as a player give your book a credibility that it obviously lacking in other children's sports literature.
I read Football Genius right after my son finished it, and enjoyed it quite a bit. Consequently, as a teacher, I have added your book to my classroom library, and have encouraged some of my reluctant readers to give it a try. It seems to be going over with great success—I have a little "waiting list" of kids who want to read it!
I really hope you continue to write books for kids. The sports genre is a terrific avenue for reluctant readers (who tend to be boys) and having a "real" football player be the author is especially enticing. Thank you again for the great books!"
   —Jane Lepold

"Thank you, thank you, thank you for writing a book for kids! Football Genius is a terrific book. We have so many boys who think reading is a chore and it is wonderful to be able to hand them Football Genius and know that they'll read it with genuine enjoyment."
   —Alice McGoldrick, Librarian

"I just wanted to say my son, who is 14, is one of your biggest fans. It started with your first kids book, which he read in a matter of hours! It is so hard to find books at that age to keep them reading. He has read all your books for kids and I recently let him read Titans. He reads at an 11th grade level although only going into 9th. I'm sure you are aware of how many pages are in that book! He read that in a day and a half! We are off to the library to get more books by you. Thanks for writing these great books, which keep my son an avide reader! No easy task. As you might have guessed, he also plays sports so these story lines keep him interested. Much success to you."
   —Ginny Moore

"I wanted to write and let you know that you helped open the door to reading for my nephew Patrick...[He] is 10 and his parents read with him every night before bed but he was never one to pick up a book on his own. I saw your book Football Genius in Barnes & Noble one day and got it for him. I read it first and loved it and gave it to Patrick telling him that I loved it and thought he would too and we could talk about it after he read it. He took it on vacation with him to Tupper Lake and my brother and sister-in-law called me to tell me that he was reading it every chance he got! He called me when he was finished with the book and we talked about it and what part he liked the best, etc.
I can't wait for your next installment which I understand will be set in Syracuse. Thanks for opening the door to reading for my nephew and I'm sure thousands of other young readers."
   —Rosemary Riley

"Thank you so much for your book Football Genius. I just by chance saw your book and picked it up for my middle son (11) Colton. He loved it. He flew through the book and looked you up online to find out more. I am going to see if I can find your other book today. He even did his book sharing on you and Football Genius. He was excited about the book and giving the report and I loved to see him excited about reading and about an author. Thank you so much! We will be looking for more of your books for kids."
   —Tami Parker

"Thank you SO much. I've never seen my son so engrossed in a book as he was with yours. Keep up the great writing for kids! Thank you again."
   —Michele Zaytoun

"I am a 6th grade English/Language Arts teacher in Kettering, Ohio, and I have just witnessed a miracle! One of my students, a reluctant boy reader, devoured your book Football Genius in one night. I can't believe it! Our librarian booktalked the book two days ago and he was immediately hooked. He rushed to pay a fine so he could be the first one in his class to read it. He took it home, read it, and as soon as he saw me this morning, told me all about it!
I'm now on a quest to find/buy your other books to have on my classroom library shelf to offer other reluctant boys.
Thank you for writing a story that captivated this young man. I'm guessing he'll be telling his friends all about it. In fact, he's booktalking the book today!
Please keep those football/baseball stories coming."
   —Mrs. Hageman

"I have read all three of your novels for kids. I loved all of them and just wanted to say I think they would make great movies! If they ever do become movies, could I act in them? Just kidding! But I am good in sports and can't wait for your next book. Could you write back?"
   —Joseph

"Hi! Yesterday you came to my school, and I got my book today (Baseball Great), and I love it! I've only read the first 5 chapters, but they're so cool! After I read the Twilight series, I thought I would never find a good book again, but Baseball Great proved me wrong! Thank you so much for writing it!"
